Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) | 2020
Policy Analysis
CPRG has recently concluded its study on the impact of the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP), undertaken for the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), with a focus on Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Assam. The TSP, adopted by the Government of India as a strategy to safeguard and promote the socio-economic development of Scheduled Tribes, directs the flow of plan funds from central ministries and departments in proportion to the tribal population. Our research assessed the effectiveness of this strategy in improving the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities between 2010 and 2020.
Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)
Policy Analysis
Launched in 2019, the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is one of India’s largest infrastructure and service delivery programmes. Its goal is simple but transformative, providing every rural household with safe drinking water through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs). Our research in Ujjain and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh investigates whether private access to water is helping reduce discrimination, improve inter-caste relations, and strengthen community ties, particularly for marginalized groups. Supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), this study uses both qualitative and quantitative methods, including surveys, in-depth interviews, and secondary data analysis, to examine the effects of JJM.
